News: Cinematic Music Group Unveiling Joint Powerhouse Venture Left Right Management

Jonny Shipes (Cinematic Music Group) and Hovain Hylton (Van Dyke Music Group) Unveil Joint Powerhouse Venture Left Right Management

Independent music industry leaders Jonny Shipes and Hovain Hylton have joined forces for a dynamic new endeavor, Left Right Management. The company will serve as a record label-meets-management company hybrid, combining elements of both Shipes’ Cinematic Music Group and Hovain’s Van Dyke Music Group to nurture hip-hop upstarts while working with seasoned veterans.

The two decided upon this joint venture as they were both in pivotal moments in their careers. Shipes’s Cinematic Music Group has cultivated some of hip-hop’s brightest young acts like Joey Bada$$ and his Pro Era crew, as well as working with the legendary Cam’Ron and T-Pain. Hovain has groomed the likes of music industry mavens Sickamore and Rob Markman, along with rising star Young Lito. Shipes’s knack for spotting budding movements mixed with Hovain’s incomparable management style, make Left Right a surefire success. It’s a mutually beneficial empire for everyone involved.

“I’ve always had an admiration for Shipes being a talent scout,” Hovain explains, as his own imprint Van Dyke Music Group is released under Cinematic. “I believe in the universe and karma and energy; it seemed like the perfect synergy at the perfect time.” Shipes adds, “I haven’t had anyone in years like Hovain that knows how the industry moves from the non-corporate side. I couldn’t be as successful as I want to be if I don’t touch the people Hovain touches and vice versa. It’s a really good partnership. We are two independent minds who have built everything we have without any industry insiders.”

The two compare the working structure to the former Violator Management led by late industry titan Chris Lighty. Their hub will within Shipes’s Cinematic Music Group compound in Brooklyn, where resources are readily available for artists and executives alike, including studios for music and film, plus administrative space. “The energy of the office is really exciting—there are no egos—and I believe who we have in the company is great; it’s a place to create whether it’s art, music, and whatever is dope that we like,” Shipes explains. “I never had the resources and the staff or the know-how but now I have Jonny I can call at 3AM to lean on,” Hovain says. In addition to artists, Left Right will hire a creative team of managers and other rising executives to not only grow musical talent, but also mentor new business talent. “We’re looking to put good young hungry managers under us to mold their talent and managing,” Shipes says. “If you’re a young executive and don’t want to get taken advantage of, come to us.”

While Left Right Management will be revealing its roster in the coming months, both Jonny Shipes and Hovain Hylton are ready to bring new talent to the forefront and show the music industry what happens when two brilliant independent minds come together to push things forward.
