Cee x Smokewell x D-Cipher - Bye Toxic City Vol II

Image
After “bye toxic city!” hit in 2020, Cee and D-Cipher (the MC alias of Cambridge, ON producer Smokewell ) got right to work on the follow-up project. Initially intended to be the Deluxe Edition , they decided to turn it into a series and Vol. II was born. Once again infused with soulful Boom Bap Hip Hop, raw rhymes and high energy, the boys delivered a banger of a project. From the whimsical bounce of the title track to the laid-back “Even More” , from the chipmunk soul of “Free” with Notion to the haunting strings of “The Mexican” with Rock Abruham , from the early 2000s Roc-A-Fella era sample in “Carbon Copy” to the head nodding posse cut “The Playmaker” , the EP never slows on the energy and delivers every time. The visual, courtesy of long-time collaborator King Richard , spans from Montreal, QC to Toronto, ON, with the three MCs illuminated under neon lights like the cover art, the Relentless flag blowing from the Tesla as they roll through the city with the windows down to the sounds of booming bass and trappy synths.  Stream + Download Cee - "I Got Next" ft. Cee - Relentless

Image
After three singles - the trappy “I Got Next” featuring Myer Clarity and Notion ; the neck-snapping “Stay Woke” ; and the reggae vibes of “Let Justice Prevail” featuring Caleb Hart ; Montreal-via-Melbourne artist Cee is finally delivering his long-awaited solo full-length. The sophomore solo album, "Relentless" , is Cee' s boldest and all-encompassing project to date.  With production helmed entirely by Toronto's Myer Clarity , the album is created entirely by musicians with no samples to be found, and the result is astounding. The project is mixed and mastered by Notion - the true MVP of the album - and all art work, photography, wood-carving and creative direction is from Cee' s long-time collaborator, Josh Telfer . Y'all might know Smokewell , also known as D-Cipher on the mic, from his 2020 collab EP with Cee , “bye toxic city!” . Cee connected with the sultry D'Eve Archer on “Old Ghosts” , a moving and haunting (pun intended) ode to his late father over soulful Rhodes keys, while Notion came with strong bars over a grimy boom-bap slapper on “So Grateful” .

Video: Cee & Notion - Found U

Image
Back in April, Cee and Notion dropped their first official collaborative single as a group, "Found U" . Produced by Notion . Fast forward to Summer '19 , the Toronto Raptors came through with a historic win to take home the first ever NBA Championship for a Canadian team. This W meant more to the city than anything they'd seen since they've been residents, so in light of the win and the fact that both Cee and Notion now are Permanent Residents of Canada , it was only right that they shot the video for "Found U"  on the day of the Championship Parade.  Expertly shot and directed, as always, by Richard Bastarache aka King Richard . Cee & Notion - Found U

Image
The Movement Fam sends the single "Found U" by Cee & Notion ....As so many of us were, both Cee and Notion were heavily affected by the recent death of Nipsey Hussle , as they share a lot of his mindstate, subject matter and his business ethos. He was and will continue to be a huge inspiration in life and music. Huge loss. #RIPNipsey
