In a moment such as this, it is easy to crawl into a ball and sulk. In this moment, it is easy to cry, yell, point the finger, and even harm others to be heard. It seems to some that violence is the only way to overcome an oppressing power. However violence leads to more violence, which leads to more violence, and no problem is ever resolved. I want to be unattached to this emotional roller coaster, but I am too connected to be careless. We are too courageous to bend, to fade or to just go away. We have come so far from yesteryear, yet all of our technology has not given us the proper tools to communicate effectively with love being the common denominator. If LOVE were the only language, there would be no HATE to speak of. These tears of mine fall hard for so many who have been taken away too soon, but they also fall for those who walk amidst us in a paralyzing FEAR: a fear that promotes hate and doesn’t allow LOVE to live.     LOS ANGELES (January 9, 2015) -- Civil Rights Leader Dr. Benjamin F. Chavis, Jr. and Hip Hop Icon MC Lyte have joined forces with the penning of FUSION: Bridging the Gap Between Civil Rights and Hip Hop ( www.fusionthemovement.com ),  which spawned from a private conversation about social justice between the two icons last summer. "Dear John" is the anthem for #EducateOURMen , which is the signature scholarship initiative of MC Lyte 's Hip Hop Sisters Foundation , which has presented two $100,000 university scholarships during the Soul Train Music Awards Red Carpet Pre-Show each year since the organization's founding. This year, the foundation will present dozens of scholarships earmarked to send men of color to HBCU' s.
