Interview: ang p + d.o.f. + dunn deal promotions

Olympia, Washington emcee Ang P presents “Groundhog Day”, his new single produced by Smoke M2D6, best known for his work as a member of Washington crew Oldominion. “Groundhog Day” appears on L.I.F.E.: Living In Fear Everyday, his sophomore album featuring Macklemore collaborator XP, MIZ, Lega’C Jones and Dice Cunningham as well as production from Royce Da 5’9”/Fred Da Godson producer Nemisis, Know Life and Page Turner. Born in central New Jersey, Ang moved to the Pacific Northwest at age 8, where he became part of indie crew The Real Life Click (stream the SANGVIS REGVM: Blood of Kings EP on Spotify). “With everything going on in our communities around the country I wanted to make a song I felt might hammer in the idea of taking a stand for issues people may feel strongly about,” Ang says. “I wanted to highlight some interactions of everyday life throughout out the record. I wanted the song to be personal yet general enough for anyone going through a tough time or dealing with injustices to be able to relate to it no matter what their walk of life is.”

Describe Olympia to someone who’s never been there.

Olympia is a melting pot of people from all over. A great place for people to find themselves. Real artsy. Real down to earth. Aware. Understanding. Those are definitely things that describe it. Real interesting for ANY out of towner haha

What’s Real Life Click all about?

Real Life Click is about exactly that. Realness, genuine, authenticity. We're all people. We all have feelings, emotions, thoughts. If you can't relate to real life... Well? We've always taken pride in the music we feel we represent. Being from Jersey originally moving out west we've seen a little bit. Not everything but a little bit... So we wanted to talk about experiences, real experiences, real situations. And that's where the Real Life comes in. The one who came up with the idea of a team is my older brother MIZ. He came to me one day and said this was his plan and we ran with it. Over the years we've managed to find some amazing people to grow with. We have 6 active artists. I say active because we also have a few other endeavors our brother Fred Diezil gets us involved with, but I feel he'll be back in the studio sometime lol. Page Turner who's a producer/emcee. Know Life who is a producer and GFX guru. He did most of my latest album LIFE and all of Blood Of Kings, the last RLC release prior to my album. Nemisis is another producer, super fire. Lega'C is our R&B dude. And MIZ, myself are emcees. Oh, also working with the homegirl Dice right now too.

How does the east coast compare and contrast with the northwest?

I always say the east coast is grid life. Life on a grid. 9 to 5. Monday through Friday. Fast paced. Always a hustle. Where the west coast is slower, unorthodox on scheduling times. Everything starts later in the day, ends earlier. Local economies are very different. It's definitely a bit of a change of speed.

Social issues seem to be gripping America more intensely this year. Why do you think that is?

Internet. Social media. People's comfort level, or lack thereof. You're either a part of the solution or you're part of the problem. And that's true more than ever with the ability to digest this info as fast as it happens. Still so many uninformed people. Then it's like what's really real? Internet changed how we live everyday. People are taking stances on issues. And people are standing for what they believe in. Whether we all agree with it or not. More evident than in the past that everyone really is different.
