The album title "Lungs of Mahalia" gives a nod to the legendary vocal abilities of the late gospel star Mahalia Jackson, as Double A.B. delivers his own brand of divinely inspired rap vocals over Git Beat’s soulful, avant-garde production. The subject matter is far from church-friendly however, as Double A.B. traverses through the trappings of NYC street life, eventually ending the album with Justice, a scathing NSFW protest song. The guest features read like a who’s who of independent hip-hop with the likes of Eto, Homeboy Sandman, The Musalini, Prince Po, A-Plus, and Young Zee all delivering masterful verses over Git Beats’s mesmerizing melodies.
