An Open Letter: Let Lyte Lead The Way

In a moment such as this, it is easy to crawl into a ball and sulk. In this moment, it is easy to cry, yell, point the finger, and even harm others to be heard. It seems to some that violence is the only way to overcome an oppressing power. However violence leads to more violence, which leads to more violence, and no problem is ever resolved.

I want to be unattached to this emotional roller coaster, but I am too connected to be careless. We are too courageous to bend, to fade or to just go away. We have come so far from yesteryear, yet all of our technology has not given us the proper tools to communicate effectively with love being the common denominator. If LOVE were the only language, there would be no HATE to speak of. These tears of mine fall hard for so many who have been taken away too soon, but they also fall for those who walk amidst us in a paralyzing FEAR: a fear that promotes hate and doesn’t allow LOVE to live.

So in lieu of the world to come where love guides all, I ask this question: how close can we get to this united state? The state where people live in harmony and lives are not only respected, but honored. Where everyone understands that no soul stands alone: one man represents an entire family, a village, and a community and when his life is taken, it cripples and infringes upon an eco-system that loves, cares and depends upon him. Be it black, white, yellow or brown - cd salesman, teacher or officer of the law - OUR men are sons, brothers, husbands, and fathers who are taken way too soon, leaving mamas, daddies, sisters, brothers, wives and children feeling lost, damaged and broken hearted.

When you know who you are and what you represent, the unknown will never scare you and in a moment of conflict you’d never allow darkness to rule. The LYTE would consume you and there would be absolutely no FEAR to experience. You would know that fear and darkness will only lead to chaos and confusion…every time.

And whether you feel I am either preaching to the choir or not holding offenders accountable enough, I simply ask that WE all pray and visualize a world where everyone is treated equally. A land where your skin color, religion, or sexual identity would not determine whether you'd get live to breathe another day. A place where fear and prejudice are abolished and love & light grow beyond capacity. For one thing is abundantly clear: and that is we will all be challenged with the one thing we fear most and in a moment of decision we may have to make an irreversible choice. . . CHOOSE GOD and let Him lead us into the LIGHT.
